Substantiation Triptanen zullen de voorkeursbehandeling blijven. Ergotamine voor migraine is vroeger gebruikt en kon medicatie over gebruikshoofdpijn en ernstige perifere vasculaire complicaties veroorzaken. Daarom wordt ook verwacht dat inzet van ditans en gepants de voorkeur zullen krijgen boven dihydroergotamine in Nederland.

Additional remarks In 2016 waren er 266.400 personen met migraine bekend bij de huisarts. Totaal aantal gebruikers triptanen (Selectieve serotonine-agonisten) in 2016 betrof 214.638 personen. Triptanen zullen naar verwachting de eerste keuze blijven. Er wordt niet verwacht dat dihydroergotamine voor deze indicatie veel ingezet zal gaan worden in Nederland.
