Iomab-B is een "targeted therapy" een monoklonaal antilichaam dat is verbonden met radioactief materiaal (waardoor het een radioactief gemerkt antilichaam is). Iomab-B levert selectief straling aan beenmerg en milt, waar de meeste leukemiecellen zich bevinden, in vergelijking met andere organen zoals lever, longen, nieren en slijmvliezen die door teveel straling kunnen worden geschaad.

Additional remarks 774 diagnoses AML in 2017. Bij ongeveer de helft van het aantal patiënten komt AML terug (387). In de studie worden alleen patiënten van 55 jaar en ouder meegenomen. Uitgaande van ongeveer 2/3e van de patiënten zou dit uitkomen op zo'n 260 patiënten. Van deze patiënten zal een deel in aanmerking komen, gezien niet iedereen in staat is om een stamceltransplantatie te ontvangen.
