Substantiation Ten opzicht van placebo zijn er met L-glutamine minder pijncrises (3 versus 4). Een RCT tov de standaard therapie (hydrea) ontbreekt.

Additional remarks Hydrea is en blijft 1e keus. De meerwaarde van L-glutamine is niet aangetoond in goed gedoseerde patiënten. L-glutamine zou momenteel alleen een plaats hebben in refractaire patiënten die ondanks therapietrouw en hoge dosis hydrea niet onder controle komen.

Additional remarks In Nederland leven naar schatting 800 patiënten met SCZ. Echter, gezien er meer geneesmiddelen voor SCZ in ontwikkeling zijn zal het reële patiëntaantal een stuk lager liggen.
