Substantiation De verwachting is dat dit geneesmiddel voornamelijk zal gaan concurreren met ustekinumab een iets minder specifieke IL12/23-remmer, die nu veelal wordt ingezet na falen van anti-TNF. Bij psoriasis is het specifiek remmen van enkel IL-23 effectiever gebleken dan IL12/23. Mogelijk is dit ook het geval voor chronische darmontsteking. Het geneesmiddel geeft minder bijwerkingen en er zal daardoor waarschijnlijk substitutie plaatsvinden van ustekinumab naar mirikizumab.

Additional remarks Colitis ulcerosa komt steeds vaker voor met name in de westerse landen. Er zijn momenteel ruim 80.000 mensen in Nederland met een chronische darmontsteking. Dit is ongeveer 1 op de 200 mensen. Hiervan heeft iets meer dan de helft ulcerative colitis. Het aantal patiënten dat op dit moment een biological ontvangt vanwege ulcerative colitis bedraagt ongeveer 7.000. De verwachting is dat ongeveer een kwart hiervan in aanmerking zal komen voor mirkizumab.
