Additional remarks Gastroparese komt heel vaak voor bij diabetes, maar verloopt vaak zonder symptomen. Bij mensen met diabetes type I komt een gastroparese vaker voor (5%) dan bij mensen met diabetes type II (1%) en gezonde mensen (1%). Die treden vaak op in combinatie met een andere GE aandoening, bijvoorbeeld ulcus, ontregeling, bijwerking ander medicament of schimmel et cetera. Behandeling is dan vaak lastig, domperidom en metoclopramide worden gegeven, met beperkt succes, incidenteel erythromycine. Lange termijnbehandeling is vaak niet nodig, ofwel niet effectief. Het volume zal mogelijk vergelijkbaar zijn met cisapride. Traditioneel is vertraagde maagontlediging in verband gebracht met moeilijk te reguleren diabetes, maar dat lijkt tegenwoordig niet meer zo te zijn. Maximaal 75.000 patiënten ingeschat op basis van huidig domperidon gebruik.
