De verwachting is dat hierna ook in Europa een indiening zal plaatsvinden. In Europa vanaf 2017 een weesstatus verstrekt voor dit middel bij deze indicatie. Substantiation De controlled-release variant lijkt qua werking op de huidige variant. Kleine studies laten zien dat er afname is van hyperfagie, agressie en tevens afname van lichaamsvet. De resultaten lijken klinisch relevant maar zijn niet van het formaat doorbraak (afname van 1,5-2kg lichaamsvet in 2 jaar). Ook setmelanotide zal in de toekomst beschikbaar komen. De resultaten van dat geneesmiddel op afname van lichaamsgewicht lijken vooralsnog beter. Ook al is er nog geen directe vergelijking.
