Substantiation Op dit moment wordt primaire biliare cholangitis (PBC) primair behandeld met ursodeoxycholzuur en bij non-respons wordt daar bezafbraat aan toegevoegd. Er zijn op dit moment nog geen head-to-head studies tussen bezafibraat en elafibranor. Een voordeel van elafibranor boven obeticholzuur is dat de kans dat de jeuk niet toeneemt groter is en dat het lipidenprofiel gunstig wordt beïnvloed (zoals bij obeticholzuur het geval is). Expertopinie (2) Additional remarks De inschatting voor het aantal patiënten met de diagnose PBC in Nederland in 2020 is 2.632. Ongeveer 40% van de PBC patiënten heeft een tweedelijns behandeling nodig. Bezafibraat heeft de voorkeur boven elafibranor. De verwachting is dat alleen bij patiënten met PBC waarbij bezafibraat onvoldoende werkt, elafibranor zal worden voorgeschreven. Op basis van de derde lijns (academische) populatie is de verwachting dat dit zal gaan om minder dan 250 patiënten in het eerste jaar.
