In theorie zouden al deze patiënten in aanmerking kunnen komen voor een eerstelijnsbehandeling (1). Er wordt in de behandeling onderscheid gemaakt in stadium I en II (30%) en stadium III en IV (70%). Van de patiënten met stadium I en II is 5% primair refractair en heeft 95% een complete response, waarvan maximaal 10% relapsed. Van de patiënten met stadium III en IV is 15% primair refractair en heeft 85% een complete response, waarvan maximaal 25% een relapse heeft (457 patiënten) (2). 50% van de patiënten genoemd onder stap 2 is geen kandidaat voor autologe stamceltransplantatie en start met een andere behandeling in de tweede lijn (228 patiënten). (3) Daarvan komt ongeveer de helft van de patiënten in aanmerking voor een behandeling in de derde lijn. (114 patiënten). (4) 50% van de patiënten genoemd onder stap 2 is wel kandidaat voor autologe stamceltransplantatie en ontvangt chemotherapie, waarna 50% refractair is en start met een behandeling in de derde lijn. De andere 50% heeft wel een response na chemotherapie en kan starten met een ASCT. Van deze groep zal 50% uiteindelijk relapsen en starten met een behandeling in de derde lijn (171 patiënten). (5) Voor een behandeling in de derde lijn komen er uiteindelijk maximaal (114 + 171 =) 285 patiënten in aanmerking.
