De incidentie bij pasgeborenen is 1 op de 120.000, dit is dus 1 tot 2 nieuwe patiënten per jaar. Momenteel zijn er naar schatting ongeveer 30 tot 40 patiënten in Nederland bekend, waarvan het merendeel in het Amsterdam UMC. Arimoclomol gaat waarschijnlijk niet gebruikt worden in Nederland (expert consensus op dit moment). Miglustat is ook niet heel effectief. Als N-Acetyl-L-Leucine beter werkt komen er na marktautorisatie wellicht 15 tot 20 patiënten in aanmerking.
