In Nederland wordt de diagnose jaarlijks bij 20 tot 30 patiënten gesteld. De ziekte kan sporadisch voorkomen (75% van de gevallen) of familiair als onderdeel van het multipele-endocriene-neoplasie-type 2-syn-droom (MEN-2) (1). Gezien slechts een deel van deze populatie een RET mutatie heeft zullen naar verwachting slechts een deel van deze patiënten in aanmerking komen. Niet uit te sluiten is echter dat bij de niet-medullaire schildklierkankers er in de toekomst meer getest gaat worden omdat selpercatinib weinig toxiciteit lijkt te hebben en goede uitkomsten laat zien.
