Slechts een gedeelte is responsief. Tevens wordt niet bij alle responsieve patiënten inzet van deze geneesmiddelen nodig geacht. Het maximaal volume in de eerste 3 jaar wordt geschat op het equivalente aantal dat nu sapropterine gebruikt. PKU komt in Nederland bij 1 op de 18.000 pasgeborenen voor (1). Dat wil zeggen dat er per jaar ongeveer 10 tot 15 kinderen met PKU geboren worden.
