Dit betreft dus zo’n 50.000 opnames per jaar. Dit is de beste data die voorhanden is, maar het aantal ziekenhuisopnames kan komend jaar wel afwijken gezien het verloop van de COVID epidemie (dit is onder andere afhankelijk van het aantal gevaccineerde personen, de verschillende varianten van het virus die in opkomst zijn en hoe snel deze zich verspreiden en de overheidsmaatregelen gedurende het jaar). Gezien de effectiviteit kan 50% van de personen die in het ziekenhuis opgenomen worden mogelijk in aanmerking komen voor dit geneesmiddel in de toekomst. Als gekeken wordt naar de huidige inzet van geneesmiddelen gaat het echter om 5%-10% van de 50.000 patiënten die in het ziekenhuis opgenomen worden in een jaar. Bij de milde omikron variant waren er beduidend minder mensen met cytokinestormsyndroom. Bovendien is een heel groot deel van de Nederlandse bevolking tegenwoordig goed gevaccineerd, waardoor de kans op ernstige ziekte ook veel kleiner is geworden.
