Voor Nederland zou dit een aantal van 170-340 per jaar betekenen. De werkgroep verwacht dat er slechts een klein deel van deze patiënten in aanmerking komt voor deze behandeling. Daarnaast zijn er nog ongeveer 1.500 chronische patiënten, hiervan heeft een deel geen baat bij huidige behandeling. De werkgroep schat in dat in totaal 100-200 patiënten mogelijk in aanmerking komen.
