Hiervan heeft 66,7% een hoog stadium FIGO (n=760). Tien procent (n=76) van de patiënten wordt niet behandeld en 5% wordt behandeld in klinische studies (n=38). Het resterende gedeelte van de patiënten wordt of behandeld met platinum houdende chemotherapie en een operatie (70%, n=523), of met alleen platinum houdende chemotherapie (15%, n=114) (Timmermans et al. 2018). Van deze groep is ongeveer 19% resistent/refractair (n=122). Deze patiënten komen in aanmerking voor behandeling met avelumab monotherapie of avelumab met doxorubicine. Volgens expert opinie aan de fabrikant wordt 35% (n=41) van deze resistente/refractaire patiënten behandeld in klinische studies of niet behandeld. Voor het overige gedeelte (65%; n=77) is de huidige standaardbehandeling ofwel carboplatin/paclitaxel in combinatie met bevacizumab ofwel doxorubicine. Het marktaandeel en het behandelpotentieel met avelumab zal afhangen van de nog onbekende therapeutisch waarde van avelumab + doxorubicine (of avelumab monotherapie) t.ov. de huidige standaard therapieën en de mogelijk nieuw te registreren PD(L)1 combinatie therapieën.
