Substantiation Liposomale inhalatie is nieuw. De verwachting is dat ciprofloxacine gelijke waarde heeft. Resistentie tegen ciprofloxacine is echter wel een probleem. Twee klinische studies (Orbit-3 en Orbit-4) gepubliceerd in Lancet Resp Med in 2019 laten verschillende resultaten zien: in de Orbit-3 is er geen significant effect mbt de tijdsduur tot de volgende exacerbatie, terwijl er in de Orbit-4 wel een significant langere tijd is tot de volgende exacerbatie. Nader onderzoek wordt geadviseerd.
