Een fractie van deze kinderen zal een zodanig ernstige vorm van epilepsie hebben dat meerdere AED's nodig zijn, bij een nog kleiner deel zal dat brivaracetam zijn. Er zijn 680.000 kinderen van 0-4 jaar in Nederland, dus 0,35% is 2.380. Ongeveer 10% zal moeilijk behandelbare epilepsie hebben. Dit betekent dat er maximaal 238 kinderen in aanmerking komen. Op dit moment lijkt echter brivaracetam, dat ook spoedig voor deze indicatie op de markt komt, een beter alternatief.
