Therapeutic value Current treatment options Glaucoom wordt medicamenteus vooral behandeld met plaatselijk toegediende middelen. Bij open-kamerhoekglaucoom zijn oogdruppels met timolol of een prostaglandine-analogen de eerste keus behandeling. Bij onvoldoende effect of bij intolerantie voor een van beide middelen wordt eerst het andere middel van de eerste keus behandeling als monotherapie aanbevolen. Alternatieven voor bovenstaande monotherapie zijn monotherapie met een lokale koolzuuranhydraseremmer, een andere β-blokker of α2-agonist. Wanneer monotherapie onvoldoende effect heeft, worden geneesmiddelen met verschillende aangrijpingspunten gecombineerd. Substantiation Uit de fase 3 studie blijkt dat netarsudil/latanoprost statistisch en klinisch superieur is ten opzichte van de monotherapieën. Echter is een nadelige bijwerking dat 50% van de patiënten rode ogen krijgt. Mogelijk zal het als tweede keuze gebruikt worden afhankelijk van de bijwerkingen.
