Bij open-kamerhoekglaucoom zijn oogdruppels met timolol of een prostaglandine-analogon de eerste keus behandeling. Bij onvoldoende effect of bij intolerantie voor een van beide middelen wordt eerst het andere middel van de eerste keus behandeling als monotherapie aanbevolen. Alternatieven voor bovenstaande monotherapie zijn monotherapie met een lokale koolzuuranhydraseremmer, een andere β-blokker of α2-agonist. Wanneer monotherapie onvoldoende effect heeft, worden geneesmiddelen met verschillende aangrijpingspunten gecombineerd.
