Substantiation Fase 2 laat positieve resultaten van middel zien. Vergeleken met placebo geeft maandelijks pegcetacoplan significant minder groei van geografische atrofie en lijkt hiermee werkzaam (1). Echter moet het resultaat van de fase 3 worden afgewacht om betere inschatting te kunnen maken van de therapeutische waarde (2).

Dosage per administration A single dose of 15 mg APL-2/0.1 mL will be administered via intravitreal injection in this study. Subjects will receive an injection every month

Additional remarks De droge vorm van AMD is de meest voorkomende (80%), maar de minst ernstige vorm van leeftijdsgebonden AMD. Het eindstadium is geografische atrofie, uit onderzoek blijkt dat 3% boven de 70 jaar late AMD heeft. De verhouding geografische atrofie ten opzichte van de natte AMD is ongeveer 50%/50%. Bij aanvang is het centrale deel van het netvlies (macula) nog niet aangedaan bij 2/3 van de ogen (bij 1/3 begint de geografische atrofie in het centrum), na 5-6 jaar blijkt het centrum vaak wel aangedaan te zijn geraakt. Dit betekent dat van de 1,5 miljoen mensen boven de 70 jaar in Nederland 11.880 patiënten maximaal in aanmerking komen indien alle patiënten geholpen zouden worden voordat het centrum aangedaan is.

Additional remarks Pegcetacoplan zal in 2e lijn gegeven worden aan die patiënten die nog niet afdoende onder controle zijn met eculizumab of ravulizumab. Prijs per flacon pegcetacoplan is €3010, dit komt met 104 flacons per jaar neer op €313040 per patiënt per jaar. Prijs is dus vergelijkbaar met eculizumab en ravulizumab. Dit geneesmiddel is voor deze indicatie in de sluis geplaatst tot er een arrangement is overeengekomen.
