In 2015 was in Nederland de incidentie 145.000 patiënten van 2 jaar en ouder (1). 85% (n=123.000 ) hiervan heeft mild tot matige atopische dermatitis (marktonderzoek). De behandeling van atopische dermatitis verloopt stapsgewijs afhankelijk van de ernst van de ziekte. Volgorde: emollient, TCS, TCI en systemische behandeling. Mild tot matig eczeem kan in principe goed behandeld worden met deze geneesmiddelen. Het is nog onduidelijk hoeveel van de 123.000 patiënten mogelijk in aanmerking komen. Het aantal patiënten is afhankelijk van de plaatsbepaling: bijvoorbeeld na falen/bijwerkingen van lokale corticosteroïden en calcineurine remmers.
