Substantiation Het werkingsmechanisme van sibeprenlimab lijkt op dat van atacicept. Er werd een aantoonbare meerwaarde in de fase 2 studie gevonden. De subcutane toediening is een voordeel bij langdurig gebruikt. Door de huidige behandeloptie is een grove immuunrespons met sibeprenlimab zal een meer causaal werkingsmechanisme hebben. Het bindt en neutraliseert APRIL en remt daarmee B-cel gemedieerde immuunrespons waaronder IgA productie. Indien de fase 3 studie ook positief blijkt zal er een mogelijke meerwaarde zijn ten opzichte van de huidige behandeloptie. Waarbij de incidentie hoger is bij Aziatische etniciteit (270 tot 720 patiënten). Er wordt geschat dat er een prevalente pool is van 2.000 patiënten waarvan waarschijnlijk ongeveer een kwart van de patiënten in aanmerking komt voor dit geneesmiddel.
