Substantiation In 2021 is een early access program gestart door Biogen. In de fase 3 studie werd aangetoond dat zowel de hoeveelheid van het SOD1 eiwit als het niveau neurofilamenten daalt. Op de langere termijn waren er ook klinisch gunstige effecten te meten op longfunctie, spierkracht, mate van beperking (ALSFRS-R) en overleving.
