Substantiation Geïnhaleerd treprostinil liet in eerdere kortdurende studies een verbetering van FVC en minder exacerbaties zien bij IPF‑patiënten, vooral bij aanwezigheid van pulmonale hypertensie, via werkingsmechanismen die verschillen van bestaande orale antifibrotica. Dit leidde tot twee fase‑3‑studies: TETON‑IPF en TETON‑PPF. De recent gepubliceerde TETON‑IPF‑data tonen een duidelijk tragere achteruitgang van FVC bij IPF‑patiënten behandeld met geïnhaleerd treprostinil bovenop standaard antifibrotica (pirfenidon en nintedanib), zonder aangetoond effect op de 1‑jaarsmortaliteit. Resultaten van TETON‑PPF zijn nog niet beschikbaar.
