References NCT02849457 Additional remarks Vigabatrine heeft als bijwerking een concentrische gezichtsveldbeperking die irreversibel van aard is. Dit treedt in ongeveer 1/3 van de patiënten op. Daarom is het van belang om tijdens therapie ieder half jaar een gezichtsveldmeting bij de oogarts uit te laten voeren. Dierexperimentele data laten zien dat deze bijwerking wordt veroorzaakt door een depletie van taurine in het oog. Chronische suppletie met taurine wordt in de kinderneurologie toegepast bij patiënten op vigabatrine. Levenslange taurinesuppletie en oogheelkundige monitoring zijn onderdeel van het behandelschema.
