Substantiation Cefiderocol is een zeer breed middel dat voor een aantal micro-organismen effectiever is dan bijvoorbeeld meropenem of ceftazidime/avibactam. In de fase 3 studie is cefiderocol vergeleken met meropenem. Hierin werden de primary endpoints gehaald en vergelijkbare uitkomsten gevonden ten opzichte van meropenem.

Additional remarks 2 g intraveneus gedurende 3 uur elke 8 uur voor een periode van 7-14 dagen (dosering moet worden aangepast gebaseerd op nierfunctie).

Additional remarks Dit antibioticum is breed inzetbaar voor multiresistente bacteriële infecties. Afgelopen jaren is het carbapenem gebruik in Nederland verviervoudigd. Tevens zijn er steeds meer meldingen van Carbapenemase-producerende Enterobacteriaceae(CRE) infecties in Nederland met ook een aantal die daaraan overlijden. Bij het RIVM zijn in 2016 van 142 personen kweken ingestuurd met CRE infecties en 28 kweken met carbapenemase producerende P. aeruginosa. In totaal dus 170 patiëntenkweken met daarbij inachtnemend dat een gedeelte hiervan enkel drager is en er geen infectie ontstaat. Ongeveer de helft hiervan zal behandeld worden, 40 á 50 patiënten per jaar.
