Substantiation Het is in 2017 in een grote studie gepubliceerd. In verhouding tot vancomycine werkt het goed. De fase 3 studie loopt nog. Bij 20% van de patiënten ontstaat normaal gesproken een recidief. Door ridinilazole te gebruiken komen recidieven minder vaak voor. Daarnaast heeft het ook een smalspectrum en laat het het darmmicrobioom snel herstellen. Het zal een belangrijke concurrent worden van fidaxomycine dat vooralsnog de eerste keuze is, maar tevens erg duur.

Additional remarks In Nederland komen infecties met Clostridioides difficile net zo vaak voor als in de rest van Europa. Jaarlijks zijn er ongeveer 15 infecties op 10.000 ziekenhuisopnames. In 2020 waren er 2.736.480 ziekenhuisopnamen. Dit zou in totaal om ongeveer 4.100 infecties gaan. Welk deel hiervan in aanmerking zou komen is nog onduidelijk.
