Op basis van declaratiedata wordt somatropine jaarlijks voorgeschreven aan ongeveer 5.000 patiënten in Nederland, waaronder zowel volwassenen als kinderen met groeihormoondeficiëntie. Het gebruik van somatropine bij volwassenen is op dit moment nog relatief beperkt. Dit komt deels door de beperkte indicaties en de beperkte ervaring met de behandeling in deze doelgroep. Naar verwachting zal het gebruik geleidelijk toenemen, afhankelijk van de uitbreiding van indicaties en toepassing in bredere leeftijdsgroepen.
