Substantiation Alleen de toedieningsvorm van dit budesonide preparaat is uniek, er bestaan reeds tabletten, klysma en schuim. Een zetpil bereikt over het algemeen alleen het rectum, waar een schuim tevens het sigmoïd en een klysma ook het colon descendens kan bereiken.

Additional remarks Uit enkele grote onderzoekingen in Engeland en Denemarken blijkt, dat de prevalentie van (idiopathische) proctitis en colitis ulcerosa in deze landen 80-120 per 100.000 is. 1-3 Als dit ook voor Nederland zou gelden, zouden zo'n 12.000-18.000 patiënten in aanmerking kunnen komen (1). Het is echter de verwachting dat het enkel ingezet zal worden bij patiënten die voordelen ondervinden aan deze nieuwe toedieningsvorm. In 2021 ontvingen 3.551 patiënten budesonide schuim of klysma. Mogelijk zal een gedeelte van deze patiënten gebruik maken van de zetpil (2).
